Why A Seat?

In school we have begun to start to talk, and plan out our WikiSeat projects. I've begun to ask myself, why a seat? I understand the concepts of what the project is about, to solve a problem and build a seat using form and function. At the same time though, I feel like we are being severely limited by the seat.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to this project or the lessons it holds, but at the same time I feel restricted. It's a strange because on one side I'm being told to do a chair for your own reasons and that this can be your own creation. However on the other side I feel like I'm being told to do a chair to function as a chair. Mine bends the rules a bit because my function is my form in a sense, because it is planned to be an art piece.

I know it's a little more vague but I'd enjoy a project where we would find a problem, and physically find a way to solve it using form and function without being restricted to a chair. Even though I feel this way, I'm still excited to do this project. It is a great idea, and I think it provides a new way to learn in the classroom.
